First off, for anyone who likes creative ideas I recommend checking out Springwise, it’s a Web site that tracks creative new ideas and products. It frequently has a lot of interesting content.

The most recent entry to catch my eye was the Causes Gift Card, an actual, physical gift card that, “lets the recipient decide which charity will benefit.”

The card, which comes in $25 and $50 denominations, enables the recipient to log onto and choose the charity of their choice from more than a million different non-profit organizations. Unfortunately, the cards are only available in California at this point.

It did get me thinking about station charity events; request-a-thons, marathon broadcasts and the like.

Maybe the next time your show or station does a charity event you could give donors a choice of charities to pick from. Maybe each airtalent on the full-time staff or each member of the morning crew could have their own cause to rally behind.  That might alleviate the challenge in selecting a charity beneficiary and trigger more listener’s hot buttons.
