Yesterday I wrote a post about how Generation X has become very practical. Member of the slacker generation are most likely to buy generic brands, bring their lunch to work and give up the morning Starbucks run to save some cash. I suggested reflecting those sensibilities in your show. However I want to be clear that doesn’t mean you have to be boring.

Let’s face it, the insurance industry is as practical as it gets. They have people who figure the odds on how likely you are to get into an auto accident, have your stuff stolen or, let’s be frank, die. They use those odds to sell you insurance hedging their bets that you will pay them more than it will cost them to help you through a car accident, burgulry or death. Very calculated, not very fun.

Yet the insurance industry has also brought us some of the most enjoyable and creative advertising campaigns in recent history. Geico alone has provided us with geckos, cavemen and a stack of dollar bills with eyes while Allstate recently debuted Mayhem which I’m sure inspired more than a few Haloween costumes this year.

If the most boring and arguably morbid industry in the world can have creative, funny commercials there has to be potential for you to be both practical and entertaining each time you walk into the studio.
